Provide Education for Talented Roma Children

We had a new education training with our great Young Roma leaders again in April 2018. We had been reflecting on our previous activities and as well preparing completely new framework for our next activities, at elementary schools.

Young Roma leaders is a group of young people from our organisation Divé maky, o.z., who mobilize and activate others among the Roma disadvantaged youth trough the activities organised in local schools and who advocate the interests of their community towards institutions and authorities responsible for preparation and strategies aimed at youth.

During our first training in this year 2018 we planned a harmonogram of the activities that we had planned for the kids at specified elementary schools. Thanks to our previous experience, we could adjust the program of the activities, that would interest and motivate the children and youth the most, and also that could bring us the most infomation about the needs of this group as possible.

Young Roma leaders is a strong group of young people able to organise and cover all communication with the school´s directors, prepare their own program and motivate and communicate with youngsters form social disadvantaged areas, who do not have enough opportunities to see young people coming from the same areas and making so much effort to achieve their dreams and education. This examples of young successful people makes a great motivation for the others.

For this year we prepared 5 more activities on elementary schools all over Slovakia´s least developed regions. We look forward all these experiences and we hope we can motivate as many children as possible.

Thanks to you, our great sponsors and supporters we can organise a lot of events for these children and youth every year. There they can work on improving their talents, skills and personalities. We can also organise small trips, train our mentors (who are the second parents of our children) and also deal with unexpected expenses and hard life situations of our children, that unfortunately sometimes occurs.

During 2017 we organised a lot of events that were completely new for our organisation. We loaded successfully project of Young Roma leaders on elementary schools in all region of Slovakia. We absolved meetings with children and youth from Zdana, Spišský Štvrtok, Zborov and Velké Leváre. Our Young Roma leaders presented here their achievements that reached despite they had to face a lot of obstacles on their way. They tried to motivate children to study and not to give up their dreams. Young leaders also prepared some workshops and they worked in small groups of children. All of the events on elementary schools ended up with a lot of positive response not only from kids, but also from the teachers. Our work on schools continues also in 2018. We had planned visiting 5 schools, from which 3 are in new region of Slovakia – Svit, Huncovcem Terna and thanks to great responses we are going to repeat the visit in elementary school in Zdana and Spišský Štvrtok.

This year we also organised an international exchange during the summer holidays, in which took part 5 countries – Hungary, Bulgaria, Norway, Lithuania and Slovakia. It was an unforgettable experience for all of our young members from Dive maky, most of who had the opportunity to speak in English language and be part of a multicultural area for the very first time. It helped them to expand their point of view, to lose the language barriers and to achieve a better selfconfidence.

 Especially successfull was a visit of Young Roma leaders in Strasbourg , where we could meet with a lot of policies important on European level. We also visited European parliament, Council of Europe, European Youth Centre and the others. Young leaders engaged in a lot of discussion meetings, where they presented our work in Slovakia and could achieve a lot of information about studies and internships in Strasbourg. This visit was a great addition to all concerned. It opened them a new possibilities  and showed them, that also young Roma people can affect on a European political level between the youngsters.
