Provide Debt Relief for 20,000 U.S. Borrowers

When we joined GlobalGiving, we set a goal to cancel more debt and restore financial freedom to more borrowers in a single year than we ever have since beginning this work. Let it be known that our goals haven’t changed, and we still plan to cancel another $25 million in predatory debt for people all over the U.S. – which is why we can’t wait to share these updates with supporters like you. 

One thing that makes the debt industry so predatory is the fact that debt can be bought and sold for just pennies on the dollar by virtually anyone. Debtless disrupts the predatory debt industry by using their own system against them. Typically, debt collectors purchase debt and use it to harass and intimidate people into making payments, sometimes on debt they don’t even owe. We purchase debt, instead, for the sole purpose of canceling it, no strings attached, for the benefit of borrowers. 

Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been working on purchasing and canceling additional debt portfolios, and we’re excited to announce that we’ve officially canceled an additional $11 million in predatory debt benefiting more than 10,000 people. Each and every one of the borrowers lifted out of debt has a name, friends, family, and a life that shouldn’t be financially restricted by a predatory system. You’ve given 10,000 people the freedom to buy a car, become a homeowner, pursue an education, or simply put food on the table each day.
