The World Health Organization has declared Haiti the world's most water-improverished country. As many as 50% of the people in Haiti have no access to clean water and over 70% have no sanitary sewers. At present, one in eight children under the age of five die of water-borne disease and illness. Using local materials, employing local men and women, and purchasing products from local businesses, Clean Water for Haiti manufactures Biosand water filters and delivers them to Haitian families.

Biosand filters can remove 98-100% of all disease. Water from contaminated sources is poured through the filter and is ready to use. A filter can treat enough water each day for all of the household needs - drinking, bathing, washing and cooking.

Long-Term Impact

This project will manufacture and deliver 100 Biosand filters to Haitian families giving them access to clean water which will improve their health and extend their lives. It will also provide employment to local people and help the economy.
