The project aims to support four (4) communities that is Nabiika, Kawuku, Kyamutakasa and Nakyibizi with completely water shortages. Many of the areas above lack clean, fresh and safe water for basic purposes. People rely on contaminated sources such as rivers and unprotected wells, leading to frequent water bone diseases eg, diarrhoea and cholera. Women & children spend long hours fetching water reducing time for education and income generating activities on addition to weather changes.
Poorly constructed boreholes and less hydrological surveys to determine the depth and flow of water to the surface lowers the availability of water to the community. Climatic changes that makes the wells to drain. Higher levels of water bone diseases such as cholera due to the contaminated Wells as a result of poor sanitation. Decrease in the participation of economic activities by women that lowers income generation. Girls & boys fail to attend school as they take long hours to collect water
The project will improve access to fresh, clean and safer water by constructing, rehabilitation of boreholes, wells, protecting natural springs and promoting rain water harvesting in times of drought. This will create more time to economic activity to riase income & children attendance. Communities will be trained in water treatment, maintenance through local water management Committee to ensure less spread of water bone diseases that normally affects young children thus reducing death rates.
Access to fresh, clean and safer water will lower the spread of water bone diseases, improve health for the younger children and lowering medical costs. Children especially girls and boys will have more time for school hence loweing early dropouts while families will gain time for their productive work hence more Economically Active people and income generation. The projcet will promote gender equality, strengthen community resilience and ensure long-term access to clean water.
