Tanzania has one of the lowest rates of literacy in the world. Through your donations OLTRE Food For Brains will provide 5000 books to 1800 students in 6 primary schools of Isimani, Tanzania. The rural area of Isimani is poor and isolated, there are many children, no books and only few teachers. We'll provide 3 books for each student. Our past projects demonstrate that books improve quality of education and increase the percentage of students who successfully pass to the next level of education.
In Tanzania, primary education is free but schools are still in a poor condition, especially in rural areas. In the Isimani area there is on average 1 teacher per 200-250 students and 1 book for 80 students. In this situation children can not study, and often there are no lessons to attend. Limited government resources are used to pay poor teacher salaries and teaching materials are neglected. Families can not afford these costs, since the cost of 1 book is equal to a weekly salary of a farmer.
The aim of the project is to bring 5000 books to 1800 children in 6 primary schools. Providing an average of 3 books per student, we will allow children to be always able to study, even when they have no classes. The project will relieve families from the costs of books, which represents one of the main obstacles to education. In the schools involved, the quality of education will improve, children will achieve better results, the enrollment rates will increase& the drop out rate will decrease.
We believe that only culture and education can drive the development of a country. We believe that increasing literacy in the rural area of Isimani will activate a long-term process of development. In the long run the number of students who pass the entrance examination to higher schools will rise and the level of education in the area will increase. People with a better education will have more opportunity to succeed in life, get good jobs and bring these benefits to their families.
