Provide Backpacks to Children Affected by Disaster

by Do Your Part, Inc

Summary

Since Katrina in 2005, Do Your Part has found that most of the time school is either in session or ready to begin and children affected by a disaster have lost everything including their backpack. The most requested item from a child is a backpack. A new backpack puts the biggest smile on a child's face. This project wants to make sure that each of these backpacks are filled full of supplies and a few extras to give each of these children a new start, along with a gift card for food.

Challenge

Most disasters effect the educational process, schools damaged or destroyed, and children's backpacks and supplies lost most of the time due to flooding that follows many disasters.

Solution

A backpack is a beginning of a road to recovery for a child, and to get it as a gift with a letter is extra special. The backpack brings the biggest smile you will ever see, along with the supplies inside, usually including a small stuffed animal and a gift card. A new beginning is just around the corner.

Long-Term Impact

All survivors are affected when a child's life is touched and it brings a smile to their face. This small part of reaching out brings hope, trust, and believing back into a community, along with a pay-it-forward attitude. The special love that this project brings is that other children our involved in putting these backpacks together, and then write a special letter to put inside, and the experience is beautiful.
