We will serve a minimum of 200 youth and their families during the first year of the project, and implement a total of 30 direct-impact activities that benefit children from various regions of the Island, mainly from the north and center of Puerto Rico. By offering workshops both in our theatrical space and bringing these workshops to schools and communities lacking the resources to do so on their own, we are overcoming logistical barriers and providing access to necessary arts education.
In Puerto Rican communities, access to enriching cultural and educational opportunities remains a challenge, particularly for children and families facing socioeconomic vulnerabilities. Cultural resources and the use of creative arts are limited, and this restricts opportunities to explore avenues of creative expression and personal growth. The absence of affordable outlets for artistic engagement exacerbates this disparity, hindering the development of vital skills and curbing aspirations.
Through targeted interventions in our space in Santurce and establishing partnerships with visits to schools and community organizations, our project provides two parallel avenues for youth to have access to the arts, thereby increasing the availability of high-quality arts programs and ensuring that children have the opportunity to participate in arts education activities regardless of their circumstance.
Through the arts, children can develop skills that allow them to improve their social situation and their communication skills, identify and manage their emotions, and above all, feel empowered to reach their maximum potential in whatever career or life path they wish to pursue. Access to the arts can contribute to their economic situation in the future, since the arts provide many tools with which to excel in business, as a project leader, and as an agent of social change.
