Dear GlobalGiving Friends:
This update serves as our latest quarterly report for the GlobalGiving campaign that we conducted last year. We have remained on this site so that we could become eligible for the Microsoft YouthSpark program on GlobalGiving.
To be qualified as a YouthSpark participant, we had to be remain active on GlobalGiving for nine months, inclusive of recurring donations and quarterly reports, as well as have programs that support youth in education in the developing world. I am proud to announce that we have finally attained this status! Thank you for continuing to support the SOUP both on GlobalGiving and in our general programs - we can't do it without you!
Aside from this exciting update, The African SOUP is growing and thriving in Nabikabala Village, Uganda! We now have 400 children engaged in a quality primary education, with 18 more attending secondary school. Students like Peter are studying, learning, and loving life!
Peter is a 7-year-old Primary 2 student who attends the SOUP school. He has an inquisitive nature and a sweet charm. He is usually seen walking arm in arm with his best friend, Tony, around school. Peter describes himself as smart and active within the classroom.
Peter lives with his grandmother and six others so that he can be close to the SOUP school. His mother, father, and five siblings live in the nearby town of Namutumba. His mother is a waitress in this town and his father is a driver.
Peter’s favorite subject is English. He enjoys learning English at the SOUP school because it allows him to learn and know more words. Peter loves his teachers at the SOUP school and he especially loves visitors. Won't you come visit him soon? Contact Holly Habimana at holly@theafricansoup.org for more information on planning a trip to the SOUP in Uganda.
When Peter grows up, he dreams of being a pilot. He wants to learn to drive an airplane so he can transport people to far places. He also enjoys playing soccer with his friends during breaks at school. Peter can be found making jokes with friends and looking for new things to try.
We think Peter is going to go far - just look at the loyalty and friendship that he has with his friend Tony in the attached picture. That picture displays love, compassion, and community - that is the embodiment of The African SOUP.
Thank you for continuing to be a part of the SOUP family, and supporting students like Peter. We are truly grateful for you!
Warmly,
Holly Habimana
