We are pleased to share progress on the project aimed at supporting 66 adolescent mothers through the provision of milking cows to improve household nutrition, income generation, and long-term economic resilience.
During this reporting period, one additional beneficiary, Mukarukundo, successfully received a milking cow. The support has brought renewed hope to her family and strengthened her ability to provide nutritious food and basic needs for her child. Like many adolescent mothers in the program, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to build a more stable livelihood through dairy farming.
The project continues to positively impact vulnerable young mothers by improving access to milk for household consumption and creating opportunities for small-scale income generation through the sale of surplus milk and organic manure.
Challenges Encountered
While the project is progressing well overall, we experienced a challenge concerning one of the cows previously distributed to a beneficiary. The cow lost its calf due to complications during pregnancy. Veterinary professionals conducted an operation to remove the calf, and the animal is currently under treatment and close monitoring. Although this situation has affected the beneficiary emotionally and economically, the project team has remained engaged by ensuring veterinary follow-up and providing encouragement and technical guidance to the family. We remain hopeful for the cow’s recovery and continued productivity.
Impact
Despite the challenges encountered, the project continues to strengthen the wellbeing of adolescent mothers and their families by:
The beneficiaries continue to demonstrate commitment to caring for the animals and applying the training and guidance provided by the project team.
Looking Ahead In the coming months, we will continue monitoring the health and productivity of the distributed cows, strengthen veterinary support services, and follow up with beneficiaries to ensure the sustainability and long-term success of the initiative.
We remain deeply grateful to GlobalGiving donors and partners whose generosity continues to transform the lives of adolescent mothers and their children. :
