Provide women and girls education in Cambodia

At WRC, we believe that there is information that is far more important than what is taught in the school curriculum. Unfortunately, a lot of women and girls of our community don't get access to either - and we are trying to change that. 

In the last quarter, our House of Families Project had a series of indoor activities which engaged 923 family members, including 444 females and 187 girls, promoting relationship building, self-confidence, and leadership. Four workshops on child development and positive parenting involved 173 participants, predominantly women and girls, who learned how to effectively support their children. Counseling and support services were provided to 22 families, addressing key issues affecting women's and children's well-being.

Safer City for Girls:
The project emphasized creating safe, inclusive environments for girls through community engagement and awareness on sexual and reproductive health and rights. A launch event brought together 98 stakeholders, promoting collaboration on gender-related challenges. Youth-led community forums encouraged discussions on gender equality, with substantial participation from young women.

Young Women’s Entrepreneurship (YWE) Initiative:
Focused on empowering young women entrepreneurs, the project conducted workshops to build business and leadership skills. Activities included a workshop improving business knowledge, a soft skills training session that nearly doubled participants' test scores, and Facebook Live sessions reaching over 3,400 views. An exhibition showcased achievements and allowed for networking among 98 attendees, with specific focus on addressing challenges faced by women in business.

Home Gardening Project:
This outreach initiative supported food security through sustainable gardening practices. Follow-ups with families indicated that 57 families received chickens (with 10% well-fed) and 53 received vegetable seeds (with 24% establishing small businesses). Women's involvement in these projects directly contributes to their economic empowerment and the overall health of families.

These activities collectively underscore a commitment to advancing women and girls' education, empowerment, and well-being through various integrated community-focused initiatives.

A great quarter! Our Young Women Entrepreneurs program has made significant strides in empowering young women with the knowledge and skills necessary for their entrepreneurial journeys. Over the past quarter, we successfully delivered a variety of workshops designed to equip participants with essential business acumen and financial literacy.

Workshop Overview

1. Project Orientation Workshops: We conducted two Project Orientation Workshops, attended by 47 enthusiastic women. These workshops aimed to prepare participants for the journey ahead, introducing them to key concepts in project management and entrepreneurial planning. Feedback indicated that the women left feeling more equipped and confident in navigating their entrepreneurial paths.

2. Financial Literacy Workshops: A cornerstone of the program, two Financial Literacy Workshops engaged 51 women. The pre-post test results from these sessions were particularly noteworthy, with participants reporting an increase in financial knowledge from 25% to an impressive 83%. This dramatic improvement highlights the effectiveness of the workshop content and delivery, underscoring the importance of financial knowledge in fostering sustainable business practices.

3. Business Entrepreneur Workshop: A specialized Business Entrepreneur Workshop catered to 13 participants, focusing on foundational business skills. The knowledge assessment demonstrated a remarkable increase from just 3% pre-workshop to 78% post-workshop. This workshop empowered the participants with crucial insights into business operations, strategy development, and market understanding.

4. Informal Soft Skills Workshop: Recognizing the importance of soft skills in entrepreneurship, we also hosted an Informal Soft Skills Workshop for 16 young women. The pre-post test results showed a substantial growth in participants’ confidence and skills, with knowledge levels rising from 26% to 71%. This workshop emphasized communication, teamwork, and leadership, equipping participants with vital interpersonal skills necessary for success in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Additionally:

1. Business Exchange Visits: We had over a dozen business exchange visits with 83 women. Some of the most notable ones were to Maybank and a Silk Weaving training center.
2. Women's Support Group meetings:  Two meetings providing a safe haven for 36 women to support each other and talk about their difficulties. 

Impact and Outcomes

Overall, the Incubator Program has successfully created a dynamic learning environment, fostering knowledge and skills among young women entrepreneurs. The impressive increases in pre-post test scores across all workshops validate our approach and content. Participants reported feeling more competent and prepared to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys, illustrating the program's impact.

The feedback from the participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside their peers. The resources provided during the workshops have not only imparted knowledge but also instilled a sense of community and support among the participants.

We look forward to continuing this vital work and expanding our outreach to empower even more young women in their entrepreneurial pursuits. The success of these workshops is just the beginning of what we hope to achieve in fostering a new generation of women entrepreneurs.
