Project Report | Mar 24, 2025
Financial and Emotional Empowerment

By Rosario Hernandez | Donor Relations Manager

In the last few months, WRC has aimed to address the needs and challenges faced by women in urban Siem Reap by:

1. Developing entrepreneurial skills and essential competencies, and
2. Enhancing civic engagement through platforms and partnerships.

The project empowers businesswomen aged 20–40 by providing them with knowledge, skills,
and access to networks and resources. This enables them to establish and maintain
sustainable businesses, amplify their voices, and contribute to broader societal platforms.
The project team conducted an internal annual survey to assess the impact of the Young
Women Entrepreneurs (YWE) project, involving 50 out of 126 women participating in the
program in Siem Reap province. Among these, 38 women have established businesses,
while 12 women expressed interest in starting their own. The survey aimed to gather insights into how the project has influenced participants’ personal and business development.

Additionally, the team organized a women’s support group meeting, attended by 21 participants (including 2 children), where women shared their experiences and challenges in starting and running businesses.

The meeting aimed to collectively address these issues and seek solutions from local government officials and stakeholders.
To further support women entrepreneurs, the team hosted Facebook Live events on topics
such as “Effectively Managing Family and Business Finances” and “Women’s Role in the
Family Economy.” These events, moderated by three young women entrepreneurs, reached a
wide audience, with 2 sessions drawing 43 participants, 3,776 impressions, and 733
engagements (including shares, comments, and likes). The second session had 17
participants, 1,000 impressions, and 225 engagements, with a total of 1,600 plays. These
events successfully raised awareness of economic and social issues while highlighting role
models for women in business.
In partnership with private sectors, the project distributed 200 bicycles to 200 girls in Siem
Reap province, supporting their access to education. Furthermore, the team participated in
several capacity-building activities and meetings, including a provincial coordination
meeting with TLC, a breast cancer event, the Speak Out Sisters event, a co-creation partner
meeting with Diakonia, and M&E training sessions.

The team also co-hosted the International Day of the Girl on 12th November 2024,
attracting 564 attendees (326 females and 238 males), including 10 YWEs. Under the theme
“Empowering Girls for Sustainable Development,” the event celebrated girls’ empowerment
in Cambodia, focusing on access to information, education, rights awareness, and protection
from challenges. Supported by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Siem Reap Provincial
Administration, Plan International Cambodia, and the Resilience Fund for Women, the event
contributed to global efforts to end discrimination and violence against women.
On 27th November 2024, the team co-hosted the End Violence Against Women and Girls
Campaign, engaging 926 participants (445 females and 20 YWEs). The campaign aimed to
eliminate all forms of gender-based violence, collaborating with government departments,
NGOs, schools, universities, and partners such as Diakonia Asia, Banteay Srei, Life Cambodia,
and the NCN-SR network.

This quarter, the Women’s Resource Center made significant progress in empowering
women, girls, and families through education, skill development, and community
engagement. The projects have successfully addressed critical issues such as gender-based
violence, reproductive health, and economic empowerment, contributing to a more inclusive
and supportive community in Siem Reap.
