Project #26449

Provide 2,500 Haitians Access to Clean Water

by Hope for Haiti

This project will provide access to clean, great tasting water to 2,500 children and their families living in rural Haiti where there is limited access to clean water and high risk of waterborne diseases.
total goal

In May 2015, the World Bank reported that 44% of Haitian families use water sources (rivers or unprotected wells) with high probability of contamination. For many Haitian villages, these water sources are often the center of the community where people come to drink, bathe, water their animals, cook, etc. Children from rural areas are the most vulnerable to waterborne diseases, long term health issues and continued poverty.

We will provide access to clean water in communities where it is needed most by digging wells, creating community water committees to maintain and care for the wells, educate community members - particularly children on the importance of using clean water, and provide long term monitoring.

Long-Term Impact

This project will impact 2,500 children and their families in southern Haiti, allowing them to develop healthier immune systems, spend more time in school, and have unlimited access to clean water.
