The goal of #protecttheprotest is to raise US$ 100,000 to protect the right of Palestinians to protest institutionalized racism and the Occupation, and to mobilize for freedom and justice. Popular protests have shaped the world as we know it & protest *can* catalyze change for Palestinians; but first, protest needs to be protected. As protests in Israel/Palestine are being violently suppressed, Adalah is on the streets & in the courts to protect this democratic right. Join Us!
Palestinians are protesting the Occupation, land confiscation, institutionalized racism & Israeli impunity. But protesting Palestinians risk police violence, mass arrests, and in this time of increased suppression, even death. Many are minors, but they can expect no more leniency than adults. In addition, social media accounts are under strict surveillance, family members are being arrested. Too often the police use of rubber-coated bullets, tear gas, & water cannons to disperse demonstrations.
We'll offer legal advice to protesters; document abuse at demonstrations; represent detainees at police stations and in court. We'll run a legal education program equipping lawyers to represent protesters & coordinate representation for hundreds of detainees. We'll fight online surveillance, continue to challenge new laws that suppress legitimate protest and advocate internationally. Most important, we'll be with the protesters, particularly the children, when they are on their own.
If the protest is protected and police impunity is effectively challenged then Palestinians are better able to voice their demands, offer solutions & influence decision-makers to bring about sustainable change towards freedom and justice in I/P. When you donate, you make such sustainable change possible.
