In response to an increasing number of missing children, in order to prevent and protect children from being exposed to violence, and the weaknesses of the search mech the 116000 European hotline for missing children.
Since May 2012, ASTRA has been operating European Hotline for Missing Children 116 000 for the territory of Serbia and until May 2019, we have received 105 reports of the cases of missing children (63 girls and 42 boys), out of whom runaways were the largest group of missing children reported. Besides, according to Europol at least 10.000 child refugees have gone missing since arriving in Europe. It is feared many have become victims of exploitation by criminal organizations and/or individuals.

ASTRA provides assistance to field workers when missing child is reported, emotional and psychological support to families, contact point between carers who reported the case and agencies involved, provision of expertise and advice on procedure related to a missing child. This project will enable children and families to receive legal, psychological and medical assistance.
Ensuring the prompt reaction and quick location of the missing children, possible exploitation and abuse will be prevented and the children rights will be protected. This project will help build a framework of prevention strategies and services before abuse and neglect occur and be prepared to offer remediation and treatment to children when necessary.
