What a year this has been! As we have helped more and more American victims of domestic violence abroad, we have needed to also provide food, veterinary certificates and airline approved cabin carriers to ensure the pets of the victims we serve return safely home with their pets.
We only expect the need to assist pets in domestic violence to increase in 2019.
That is why we created a microproject for this purpose. https://www.globalgiving.org/microprojects/please-help-rescue-10-pets-in-2019/
It costs an average of $300 to bring a small pet home in the airline cabin. Much more for larger pets that must be transported in the cargo hold.
Please consider a donation this holiday season to ensure furry babies stay with their families when fleeing domestic violence.
Thank you from the Pathways Team!
Mr. Sneaks is the beloved fur baby of Veronica. She found Mr. Sneaks abandoned and living in the streets while studying abroad in Costa Rica. Around the same time, she met her boyfriend, another study abroad student from Europe. At first everything was great, but he slowly became controlling.
When Veronica tried to break up with him, he became violent. She decided it was safer to stay in the relationship while she planned her escape. Veronica knew she had to come back home but could not leave Mr. Sneaks behind.
Because of donors like you, we were able to pay for Mr. Sneaks' vaccinations, veterinary certificate and small in-cabin pet carrier.
Mr. Sneaks is back home and safe with Veronica in the USA. He is enjoying his life here, a far cry from his days as a grungy street cat in Costa Rica!
Thank you from the Pathways' Team!
We truly appreciate your support for our project Protecting Pets in Domestic Violence.
We wanted to let you know that we have changed the name of the organization from the Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center to Pathways To Safety International.
We feel the new name better reflects the work we do to help American victims of interpersonal and gender based violence abroad and their pets.
As a donor to this project, you are providing critical services to help keep beloved pets together with battered American women and children fleeing violence from foreign countries back home to the USA.
Thank you for your generosity and belief in our mission!
In 2017, 23 victims with 31 pets reached out to us to help them escape domestic violence. This Global Giving project is our main funding source to provide veterinary certificates, airline carriers, pet transportation fees food and temporary housing for victims with pets escaping domestic violence.
We wanted to share a quote from someone you helped us help in 2017.
"Cranberry and I are home. What a crazy journey we have had. Without you Cranberry would not be with me. She is the only thing that keeps me from falling apart sometimes. Thank you for helping me." Amy
We want to thank you for caring about protecting pets from domestic violence and helping them come home safely to the USA.
When we helped Phoebe escape Jamaica last week with Missy she didn't even have the money to buy food for herself or Missy. Phoebe was able to stay with a friend of hers. Because of donors like you, we were able to give money to Phoebe to buy food for herself and dog food for Missy.
Phoebe is starting a temporary seasonal job next week while she is looking for something more permanent as an elementary school teacher.
Thank you for helping Missy! If you are hoping to help another pet in domestic violence this holiday season, please consider helping Bailey.
