Pre-amble
We sincerely apologize for the delay in sharing this update. Tanzania is currently preparing for the General Elections in October 2025, which has caused disruptions in community communications and public services. In addition, we have recently experienced ongoing internet connectivity challenges, which affected our ability to communicate in a timely manner. We are truly grateful for your patience and understanding.
The Problem of Child Trafficking
Child trafficking remains a serious challenge in Tanzania. The United States Department of State (2009) reported that Tanzania is a source, transit, and destination country for human trafficking. Women and children are trafficked to South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and other destinations for domestic servitude and sexual exploitation.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimates that 97% of trafficking cases in Tanzania are internal, primarily affecting young children. About 74% of the victims are girls, trafficked from regions such as Iringa, Morogoro, Singida, Dodoma, and Arusha to cities like Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, where they often end up in exploitative domestic or commercial situations.
Our Solution
The A'ray Justice and Peace Initiative (TAJPI) is committed to protecting 15,000 vulnerable children aged 0–15 in Arusha District by improving their safety, security, and well-being. We recognize that child trafficking is deeply connected to poverty and the inability of families to meet basic needs. Therefore, our approach focuses on:
Fundraising Status
To date, TAJPI has raised a total of USD $3,000, of which:
This represents 2.63% of our total project funding goal.
The limited funds available would not have sufficed without the dedication and voluntary contributions of TAJPI staff and local community volunteers. Their commitment has enabled us to continue essential activities even with limited resources.
We understand the global challenges in funding faced by nonprofit organizations, especially those operating in developing countries. We are deeply grateful for your support and kindly encourage continued giving so that this project can reach its full potential.
Project Milestones This Quarter
With the small funds available, and through strong volunteer support, we successfully carried out the following activities:
o The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act (2008)
o Child victim identification procedures
o Protection, assistance, and referral mechanisms for child trafficking survivors
At the end of the training, participants drafted two community by-law models to support child protection and counter-trafficking measures. These may be adapted and adopted across other villages in the district.
Way Forward
The success of this project depends on the availability of funding, as expertise from legal, child protection, and social welfare professionals is essential. Additionally, due to confidentiality and protection standards, we are unable to publicly share photos or identifying details of rescued children.
We remain hopeful that compassionate supporters from around the world will continue to stand with us. Together, we can ensure that every child lives in safety and dignity.
Next Quarter Plans (Nov 2025 – Jan 2026)
TAJPI plans to:
Appreciation
We express our heartfelt gratitude to all our donors and supporters, both through GlobalGiving and locally. Every contribution — no matter the size — helps protect a child from exploitation and builds a safer future.
