Dear Supporters and Partners,

The A’ray Justice and Peace Initiative (TAJPI) is pleased to share this quarterly progress report, highlighting the achievements and activities undertaken between April and June 2025. As an organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable and marginalized communities through the promotion of justice, peace, and the integrity of creation, we remain committed to building a future where every child is protected from exploitation and harm.

Key Milestone: Engagement with Traditional Leaders in Mang’ola Yayeda and Kambi ya Simba

One of the most impactful developments this quarter was the successful engagement of traditional leaders in the villages of Mang’ola Yayeda and Kambi ya Simba, located in Karatu District. Based on previous research and community data, these areas have been identified as trafficking hotspots.

Objectives of the Community Engagement

Our outreach focused on three core goals:

  1. Raising Awareness
  2. Educating traditional leaders about the mechanisms and risks of child trafficking.
  3. Highlighting the social and economic conditions that increase vulnerability.
  4. Emphasizing that trafficking is a violation of children’s rights and a criminal offense.
  5. Building Partnerships
  6. Establishing trust and collaboration with local leaders to strengthen vigilance and reporting mechanisms.
  7. Identifying culturally appropriate, community-based solutions to deter traffickers.
  8. Mobilizing Action
  9. Encouraging leaders to publicly denounce trafficking and promote child protection.
  10. Laying the foundation for village-level committees focused on preventing and responding to trafficking incidents.

Activities Carried Out

Our team organized two major consultative meetings in each of the two villages. These sessions brought together:

  • Traditional elders
  • Women’s representatives
  • Youth leaders
  • Local government officials

Topics covered included:

  • Patterns and indicators of child trafficking in rural Tanzania
  • Real-life case studies and testimonies from affected families
  • Effective strategies for identifying and reporting trafficking
  • Collaborative discussions to develop culturally grounded prevention approaches

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many traditional leaders expressed appreciation for the direct engagement and committed to collaborating with TAJPI to safeguard their communities.

Resource Allocation and Financial Overview

While funds raised last quarter fell short of our full budgetary needs, we allocated significant internal resources—both financial and human—to ensure the work progressed as planned. This reflects our steadfast commitment to fighting child trafficking, even amidst constraints.

Specific expenditures included:

  • Transportation and logistics for staff and community members
  • Printing and distribution of Swahili-language training materials
  • Meals and refreshments to support inclusive participation
  • Modest stipends for volunteer mobilizers

Despite limited funding, these efforts produced meaningful results and laid the groundwork for long-term community resilience.

Challenges Faced

The most pressing challenge remains financial sustainability. The costs of continued monitoring, outreach, and follow-up exceed our current resources. Additionally, the remote nature of the target communities requires substantial logistical coordination.

Nevertheless, the passion and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community allies have enabled us to overcome many hurdles. We continue to actively pursue new funding sources and partnerships to strengthen our work.

Looking Ahead

In the upcoming quarter, we plan to:

  • Formally establish Child Protection Committees in Mang’ola Yayeda and Kambi ya Simba
  • Train local volunteers as first responders and community educators
  • Expand our outreach to nearby villages facing similar threats

These steps will reinforce the foundation laid this quarter and deepen community ownership of child protection efforts.

A Heartfelt Appeal for Continued Support

This report is a testament to the tangible impact made possible by your generosity. Even with limited means, we are transforming awareness into action and helping communities stand up for their children. But to sustain and scale this work, we need your continued support.

Every donation—no matter the size—brings us closer to a Tanzania where no child is trafficked, exploited, or forgotten.

From all of us at The A’ray Justice and Peace Initiative, and on behalf of the communities and children we serve: thank you for standing with us. We look forward to continuing this journey with you.

With deep gratitude,

The A’ray Justice and Peace Initiative (TAJPI)
