Our dassie are doing great and the family has grown!
Our lady dassie “princess” was getting fat and we were thinking of putting her on a diet when we had the surprise one morning that she had given birth to 3 babies. It was the first time for Princess to have babies and she was very embarrassed not knowing what to do. We let nature and instinct kick in but unfortunately two babies died. She is now in a private enclosure and taking good care of her last baby, both looking very healthy. Soon they will join the whole Dassie family in their new enclosure renovated by Marina our Animal Assistant.
Thank you for your contribution to the care of our dassies!
Kinds Regard,
The DAKTARI Team

There are BIG renovations going on at DAKTARI. Thanks to your generous support, the dassie enclosure is currently being completely revamped and updated. Their new will enclosure will have brand new feeding cages and more rocks and wood.
The overall goal is to make the enclosure look and feel more natural so their transition into the wild will go smoothly. We can’t wait to show you the new enclosure once it is finally completed!
The dassies play a large role in educating the children about the environment and like to greet the new children by climbing on their head – an authentic DAKTARI welcome!
Thank you for supporting our dassies, we greatly appreciate it!
Best wishes,
The DAKTARI team

Welcome again to our DAKTARI newsletter!
Our group of Dassie have an amazing time here at DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage, you can see them soaking up the South African sun, getting a nice sun tan and socialising with each other out on their rocks.
Michele the mother of DAKTARI will be seen at 6AM every morning cuddling them under her coat to keep them warm as they struggle to regulate their own temperature. This project is to keep them fed and cared for. We love our Dassies and we want to give you the opportunity to love them too.
Without peoples continuted support, we wouldn't be where we are today,
so from everyone at DAKARI we thank you for your amazing help!
From everyone at DAKTARI,
Hello and welcome to our newsletter!
DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orpahange is a special place in South Africa, we educate and insipire the local school children and communities, into conservation and environmental welfare through the medium of our animals.
We have quite a significant group of Dassie's here now, they're happy with their huge enclosure, which is spilt into two sections as Dassie's can get bigger, we've spilt them into two groups based on size. They have ample room and are content being let out on a morning into camp to graze on the local bushes and plant life which would make a welcome change from their typical balance diet we provide twice a day.
This is just a special message to everyone that has donated towards the Dassie project,
Thank you, we appreciate your support.
