Protect India's Tigers And Promote Co-Existence

We are excited to bring you an exclusive update on the critical tiger conservation work taking place in India's Satpuda Landscape - work that is made possible thanks to your generous support.

As infrastructure developments continue to fragment wild habitats, protecting the world’s remaining Bengal tigers requires innovative, proactive solutions. Thanks to funding from supporters like you, our ground partners at the Satpuda Foundation have significantly upgraded the operational capabilities of the Landscape Management Unit (LMU) with 104 advanced camera traps and three state-of-the-art drones.

Here is how your donations are putting cutting-edge technology to work on the frontline:                                                 

1. Real-Time Intelligence & Custom AI: Unlike traditional camera traps that require rangers to manually collect memory cards weeks after an event, these new devices send imagery instantaneously via wireless networks. The images feed directly into a custom-built AI model capable of instantly recognising key large carnivores - including tigers, leopards, and sloth bears. When a tiger or other large predator is detected near human settlements, the team receives an immediate alert. This allows the team to respond before conflict occurs. Additionally, individual tigers captured on camera are cross-referenced with the official All India Tiger Estimation database to track their movements across forest corridors.

2. Aerial Surveillance and Emergency Response: The newly deployed drones provide forest guards with an essential "eye in the sky." By integrating drone imagery into routine foot patrols, frontline teams can cover challenging terrain and monitor wildlife safely. In emergency situations, such as tracking an injured tiger or responding to human-wildlife conflict, aerial and ground teams can be mobilised quickly to safely intervene.

3. Empowering Forest Guards & Local Communities: Technology is most effective when paired with human dedication. The field team is actively training local Forest Department staff to use these data-driven tools effectively. Equally important is the support of local communities. Villagers have embraced this equipment as a shared asset, recognising that monitoring tiger movements helps keep both their livestock and families safe.
