Every year, thousands of vulnerable girls in Nigeria face risks of trafficking, child labour, gender-based violence, early marriage, and school dropout due to poverty and lack of opportunities. Through this project, Young and Gifted Youth Development Initiative (YAGYDI) will protect and empower 5,000 girls by providing life skills education, safeguarding awareness, mentorship, leadership training, digital skills, entrepreneurship development, and access to educational support.
Many girls living in underserved communities across Northern Nigeria are exposed to trafficking, exploitation, child labour, early marriage, and gender-based violence. Poverty, limited educational opportunities, poor awareness of safeguarding issues, and unemployment make young girls particularly vulnerable. Without intervention, many girls leave school early, lose opportunities for personal development, and become targets for traffickers and exploitative networks.
YAGYDI will implement a comprehensive Girl Protection and Empowerment Programme that includes: Education Support: School retention campaigns Life Skills & Safeguarding: Child protection education Digital & Future Skills: Digital literacy and Online safety training Economic Empowerment: Entrepreneurship training, Vocational Skills and business development support Mentorship: Female role model network Community Engagement Parent education sessions Community awareness campaigns Teacher safeguarding
Through this project, YAGYDI aims to: Protect 5,000 girls from trafficking and exploitation risks Increase school retention and educational achievement Improve digital and employability skills Strengthen community safeguarding systems Equip families with knowledge to protect vulnerable children Develop a new generation of confident female leaders and advocates The project will contribute to poverty reduction, gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
