HCLU has been for 20 years in the forefront of protecting the rights of citizens against undue interference. We stand by citizens unable to defend themselves, assisting them in protecting their basic rights. We are present in the courtrooms, in the ministries, at international events, universities and small villages. Our many partners include domestic and foreign individuals and institutions, as well as international organizations and volunteers.
The Hungarian government wants to silence the critical voices of the civil society as they do with the Central-European University as well in these days. They have kicked off the new year with a fresh wave of attacks against three of the country's most prominent civil society organizations. One of them is us, the Hungarian Civil Liberties Union. The vice president of the ruling Fidesz party said that "these organizations should be discouraged by all means and, I think, swept out from here."
Hungarian people need us. We provide legal counselling, pursue strategic litigation, conduct public education and raise awarenes. We provide free legal aid service for more than 2300 people per year and it's still increasing. Stand up for human rights in Hungary and act now! Help those who are suppressed by the state. Your donations can contribute to defending freedom in Hungary through the free legal aid we provide to journalists, people with disabilities, Roma and active citizens.
With your help and contribution we will be able to continue our work as the most active watchdog organization in Hungary. With your donations we will strengthen the team of our attorneys who provide legal counselling everywhere in the country. We will be present in more courtrooms and support people who call for more transparency and accountability. Don't let the government silence the Hungarian civil society! Take action and help us to defend freedom in Hungary!
