A wheelchair is not the measure of a woman’s future. Neither are the hardships of displacement, nor the violence that forced her away from her home and community. These challenges, while significant, do not define the full scope of her identity or her potential.
During our recent humanitarian engagement in Daudu Community, Guma LGA, GoGreen met with 64 displaced persons with disabilities. Among them were women and girls whose stories compelled us to sharpen our commitment: inclusion matters, and every recovery effort must recognize and respect the diverse experiences of women with disabilities.
Too often, public discussions about women with disabilities focus narrowly on their needs. While it is crucial to understand and address these, it is equally important to acknowledge and celebrate what these women can contribute to their families and communities.
Women with disabilities are entrepreneurs, caregivers, farmers, students, leaders, and so much more. They possess skills, ambitions, and talents that enrich society in countless ways. What stands in their way is not ability, but lack of access to safe environments, equal opportunities, practical support, and services that should be available to all.
At GoGreen, our Protect Disabled Women from Gender-Based Violence project places protection, awareness, dignity, and empowerment at the center of our work. Alongside food assistance activities, we actively strive to break down the barriers that restrict women with disabilities from achieving independence and participating fully in community life.
We believe that humanitarian aid must do more than meet urgent needs—it must also foster environments where women with disabilities can thrive. This means broadening opportunities for economic empowerment, inclusion in decision-making, and participation in activities that strengthen their confidence and resilience.
We do not want women with disabilities to be seen only as recipients of charity. They are powerful agents of change, and with the right support, they can take an active role in rebuilding their futures and shaping their communities.
Your support matters. Every contribution directly supports protection-oriented activities, inclusive empowerment opportunities, and onward assistance to those who need it most.
Please join us in building communities where having a disability does not mean facing exclusion, and displacement does not erase hope or opportunity.
Choose to see beyond disability. See women—resilient, resourceful, and full of possibilities.
