Child marriage remains stubbornly high in rural Nigeria, with nearly half of girls marrying before age 15 and 78% before age 18 in some communities (El País, 2024). For girls with disabilities in Guma, Benue State, the situation is even worse. They are often perceived as burdens or less able to contribute, making them more vulnerable to early and forced marriage.
Our project directly challenges these norms by providing 50 girls and women with disabilities with education, legal support, and safe havens where they can find respite and hope. We engage with religious and community leaders, parents, and teachers to shift the conversation and create a groundswell of support for girls’ rights.
Every donor contribution supports advocacy workshops, legal aid, and psychosocial counselling. We ensure that girls understand their rights and are equipped to make informed choices about their futures. Your support saves girls from early marriage and empowers them to become advocates for change in their own right.
By investing in this project, you’re helping to create a community where girls with disabilities are not only protected but celebrated for their resilience and potential. Together, we can end child marriage—one empowered girl at a time.
