Child marriage remains a pressing issue in Northern Nigeria, robbing thousands of girls of their childhood, education, and potential. According to UNICEF, 33% of girls in Nigeria marry before age 18, with the prevalence rising to 48% in rural areas and 67% among the poorest households. Girls with disabilities face even greater risk, as they are often targeted because others see them as burdens or as less likely to marry without coercion.
In Guma LGA, Benue State, conflict, poverty, and weak legal protections make these realities even worse. Our project provides a safe haven for 50 women and girls with disabilities, offering them the tools and support needed to resist early and forced marriage.
Through education, legal aid, and community advocacy, we empower girls to assert their rights, stay in school, and plan for their futures. We also work with community leaders and families to challenge the norms and economic pressures that fuel child marriage.
Your support is critical. With your help, these girls receive psychosocial care, access to health and legal services, and skills training to build independent lives. Every dollar you give helps dismantle the barriers that keep disabled girls vulnerable to early marriage and abuse.
By investing in this project, you are helping to end harmful traditions and giving girls the chance to pursue their dreams. Together, we can break the cycle of child marriage and create a future where every girl—regardless of ability—is free to choose her path.
