In Goma, access to reliable health information can make the difference between staying safe and facing a preventable health risk. For people who are deaf, blind, or have physical disabilities, Ebola prevention messages are not always accessible. This project aims to change that by ensuring that people with disabilities and their families can receive, understand, and act on lifesaving health information. Through sign language videos, audio messages, accessible awareness campaigns, and an inclusive alert system, we aim to reach more than 20,000 people and help build safer, more inclusive communities.
The project is currently in its preparation and resource mobilization phase. With a total budget of $17,000, we have raised our first $20 through the support of our initial donor. We are also identifying trainers and prospective learners to prepare for the upcoming activities. While implementation has not yet begun, these initial steps are laying the groundwork for the project's launch. Once sufficient resources are secured, we plan to train 50 community leaders, work with organizations representing people with disabilities, develop accessible Ebola prevention materials, and establish a WhatsApp alert system to help communities report suspected cases and connect with health services.
We are deeply grateful to our first donor and to GlobalGiving for providing a platform that connects community-led initiatives with people around the world who care about making a difference. Although we still have a long way to go to reach our $17,000 fundraising goal, we believe that continued collaboration, transparency, and the generosity of committed donors can help us move this project forward. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us closer to making essential health information accessible to people who are too often left behind.
We invite you to stand with us. Your donation can help fund accessible communication materials, community training, and awareness activities that give people with disabilities a better chance of protecting themselves and their families during an Ebola outbreak. Together, we can help ensure that no one is excluded from lifesaving information because of a disability. Thank you to GlobalGiving and to every donor who chooses to support this mission. With your help, we can turn this commitment into meaningful action and build a healthier, safer future for the people of Goma.
