Behind-the-scenes in global immunization

It’s been a tremendous season! With your support, PATH’s Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine team has been hard at work in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal—and other JE-affected countries.  Together, we’re working behind the scenes, and in several arenas, to bring lifesaving vaccination to every child at risk.

Why? Because, as you know, the work of getting vaccines to children begins long before the quick pinch of the shot. It takes scientific research, national and global policies that support vaccines, regulatory approvals, safety measures, shipping and storage infrastructure, trusting relationships with governments and communities, and much more.

With your support, PATH is continuing to build that foundations to bring JE vaccines to more children worldwide. For example:

  • In June, we met with government leaders from a broad swath of countries interested in introducing or expanding the use of the JE vaccine, including Bangladesh and Indonesia.

We presented scientific evidence for JE vaccine efficacy and safety, discussed costs and logistics, and continued building the strong partnerships necessary to introduce the vaccine in even more regions and countries.

  • In Vietnam, and other countries, we supported leaders to apply for funding from global groups—unlocking new opportunities for national immunization efforts.
  • In China, we continued to support the manufacturer of the most commonly used vaccine to continue safe, consistent, and high-quality production.
  • In addition, we helped to expand vaccination campaigns in Laos and Cambodia. In April alone, Laos launched a JE campaign reaching 1.5 million children between the ages of one and 15.

And this is just the beginning! Whether behind-the-scenes or in the spotlight, PATH is helping JE reach more children.

It all adds up. With your support, we’re moving closer than ever to a world where every child can grow up without the fear of Japanese encephalitis.

Thank you!
