Dear Supporters--
Because of your generosity during the Global Giving Challenge we have earned a permnent spot on the Global Giving site, which will give our project broader exposure to inspired donors like you, and increased visibility with corporate giving programs. We cannot thank you enough.
Over the last months we distributed the first 50 sets of safety gear to protect the women sheanut harvesters from snakebites--the immediate need for which was evidenced by a woman who was bitten just as we were about to make the distribution--and purchased an acre of road front property bordering the village of Gushie to build the women's first cooperative silo. We've included some photos in this update, but you can see more images of the project at work here.
The women of Gushie are incredibly inspired by your support for them--and what it means for their children--and send you their deepest gratitude. Now it is our goal to outfit the additional 200 women sheanut harvesters in the community with safety gear--who are anxious to participate in the program--and to construct the first ever cooperative sheanut storage silo in the region, so that the women will be able to collectively leverage a higher price for their sheanuts. But we can't do it alone.
We hope you will see the impact you have had in these women's lives and continue to support this project. We've actually just received word that GlobalGiving will be having a Bonus Day this Wednesday (Oct 19) where they're matching donations at 30%!
With Our Deepest Gratitude,
The Just Shea Program Team.
