We are deeply grateful for your continued support in protecting the magnificent Daintree Rainforest and its endangered inhabitants, especially the Southern Cassowary. Your generosity is helping us achieve vital conservation goals that not only safeguard the cassowary’s habitat but also restore the intricate ecological balance essential to the survival of both the rainforest and the cassowary itself.

A Keystone Species with a Critical Role

As you know, the Southern Cassowary is not just a beautiful and iconic bird—it is also a keystone species, crucial to the Daintree’s ecosystem. Cassowaries disperse the seeds of over 240 plant species, including 45 large-fruited trees. Without them, these vital plant species could decline, disrupting the rich biodiversity of this ancient rainforest. Your support is enabling the creation of wildlife corridors and the restoration of key habitats, ensuring that cassowaries and countless other species can continue to thrive.

Recent Achievements and Restoration Efforts

The Daintree, the world’s most ancient rainforest and Australia’s richest in biodiversity, has been scarred by development—cattle grazing, sugarcane plantations, and urban expansion have fragmented this once contiguous forest.

Yet, we can reverse this damage. We can heal these scars and make the Daintree grow again. We say this with confidence because we’ve seen regeneration happen before, and our expanded tree propagation efforts will now amplify that success. This isn’t just about planting a few trees—it’s about establishing entire ecosystems, creating new, thriving rainforests that mirror the vibrancy of nature’s original design.

Thanks to your support, we’ve made tremendous strides toward our goal of planting 150,000 trees annually. With your help, we’ve been able to:

  • Fund the critical staff resources needed to collect and propagate seeds,
  • Purchase essential materials like potting mix, fertilizer, and soil media,
  • Upgrade irrigation systems to manage the increased volume of tree production,
  • Prepare our nursery and restoration sites for future climatic challenges, and
  • Equip our teams with the tools they need to prepare degraded land for restoration.

We have the plans. We have the expertise and the staff. There is land to secure and transition from agriculture to habitat. And now, thanks to supporters like YOU, we have the funds to make the next step a reality.

Looking Forward: Protecting the Cassowary for Future Generations

Our long-term goal is to continue purchasing at-risk rainforest land and restoring degraded areas, creating a future where Southern Cassowaries not only survive but thrive. By protecting and connecting their habitat, we’re actively working to increase their numbers and ensure their lasting presence in the Daintree.

Your ongoing support is making this possible. Together, we are making the Daintree Rainforest grow again and protecting the Cassowary from extinction.

We’re sure you’ve heard the saying, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
