In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, harmful expectations about masculinity can place enormous pressure on men and boys. Poverty, unemployment and years of conflict have contributed to environments where strength is sometimes associated with dominance, emotional silence or violence. Our Promoting Positive Masculinity, Empower Men in DRC project seeks to offer a different path—one where being a man means showing responsibility, respect, care, self-control and a commitment to peaceful families and communities.
We are currently in the preparation and fundraising phase. The project team is identifying qualified trainers and potential learners while preparing the foundations needed for implementation. No project funds have been raised yet toward our USD 88,200 goal, and we want to be transparent with our supporters about this reality. Although implementation has not yet reached its full operational stage, our commitment remains strong. We believe that careful preparation, combined with the right resources, will allow us to create meaningful and lasting change.
Our collaboration with GlobalGiving gives us an important opportunity to connect this locally driven initiative with donors around the world. We are deeply grateful to GlobalGiving for helping us bring this project to a wider audience and for strengthening our fundraising efforts. We now invite individuals, foundations, companies, diaspora communities and friends of the DRC to join us. Your support can help men and boys become partners in gender equality, help prevent gender-based violence, and help families build relationships based on dignity and peace.
To every person who has already encouraged us, and to every donor who will choose to support this work, thank you. Together, we can help create a future in which boys learn that true strength is not about domination—it is about responsibility, respect, compassion and the courage to build peace.
