Fondo Unido-United Way Mexico works in projects to ensure that children have access to the universal Right to Play. For more than 10 years, we have had the conviction to ensure that every child in Mexico, has access to their Right to Play. Children learn from the time they are born, and there is no better way to grow than through quality play! Research shows that playful learning experiences are more effective in developing these interconnected skills.
Since 1959, the importance of the game in a child's life has been recognized in the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which proclaims that "the child must fully enjoy games and recreations (...); society and public authorities will strive to promote the enjoyment of this right" (Principle 7). This contrasts the idea that a child's lack of play can develop signs of depression, aggression, and even the risk of not developing certain neural connections.
Our responsibility is to ensure that the right to play for children is fulfilled, to do so, it is necessary to build spaces in which they can develop these skills, such as the Ludotecas, in which girls and boys can have access to materials that will help them develop them. A Ludoteca is an organized space, intended for the integral development of children and adolescents, whose center of interest for them to learn through the power of play.
Thanks to this project, those children who have access to a Ludoteca will have high-quality early learning play opportunities, thus impacting their development on formal schooling. Establishing toy libraries will result in improved learning outcomes for all children.
