HACORWA Progress Report
By Esron Niyonsaba | Senior Business Development Advisor
Summary of progress to date / Key highlights
- This project is designed to help vulnerable children in Rwanda stay in school by providing school fees, school materials, uniforms, mentorship, and academic support.
- As of now, no funding has been received through GlobalGiving for this project. All planned activities are on hold pending financial support.
- Despite this, HACORWA has carried out preparatory work: identifying target communities, gathering data on number of children needing support, estimating costs, and developing partnerships with local schools and community leaders.
- We have established criteria to select beneficiary children (e.g. children from very low-income families, orphans, or children at risk of dropping out).
- With contributions from founding members of HACORWA, HACORWA managed to pay for school materials for 181 vulnerable children and school fees for 1,615,000 Rwf / USD 1,114 to go to school.
Plans for next period
- Once funding is secured, begin direct support: purchase uniforms, and pay school fees for the beneficiary children with school fees arrears.
- Continue conducting outreach and raise awareness in communities about the project about prioritizing education for their children to reduce dependency on donor funding.
- Continue monitoring children’s attendance and academic performance even if the support has not yet been provided.
How you (donors) can help / Call for support
- Your donation through GlobalGiving will go directly to providing tuition, uniforms, books, and school supplies for vulnerable children.
- Even small contributions make a big difference: e.g. a donation of $20 can cover the annual cost of school materials for one child; $20 can help pay school fees for one term.
