Dear Friends & Partners,
Thanks again for your continued interested in Project Maji's commitment to bring potable water to rural communities throughout Ghana. We started the summer off with our Annual Advisory Team meeting in Ghana. Team members traveled from China, South Africa, Kenya, and Dubai for two days to discuss challenges, new products, and processes to streamline our ongoing work as we continue to scale and grow our outreach and impact.
New Sites Opened
Our team in Ghana has been diligently working to install 21 new sites and we have no signs of stopping. In partnership with World Vision, many of our new sites were placed next to schools and clinics. This was a first for Project Maji and we are loving the results. We have also deployed a new cluster strategy and are installing sites in 3 and 4 clusters communities. This enables us to work with neighboring communities to have a bitter impact. In the past we found that people traveled from neighboring communities to access our sites and we wanted to bring solutions closer to home. New partners also include, Polytanks Ghana and The Chellaram Foundation. `
World Water Week
Our founder and CEO, Sunil Lalvani, traveled to Stockholm in August to attend the annual World Water Week conference organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). This year’s theme, Water, Ecosystems and Human Development, had almost 300 different sessions, including networking events, panel discussions, and workshops to better explore the water challenges facing us today. The event was attended by a wide range of water experts, practitioners, decision-makers, non-profits, business innovators and community stakeholders looking to exchange ideas, inspire new innovation, and create concrete paths for new solutions.
African Social Investment Accelerator Bootcamp
I traveled to Johannesburg to attend the first ever Ashoka Social Investment Accelerator for Africa. After a competitive application process, Project Maji was chosen along with 11 other social enterprises from Kenya, Uganda, Benin, Nigeria and Egypt. In partnership with Nestle and the Swiss Cooperation, the six-month program is aimed at supporting African social entrepreneurs to building fully sustainable ventures. The program is based on the Social Investment Toolkit developed by Mark Cheng, the Ashoka Europe Director, based on several years of experience supporting social entrepreneurs and adapted to the African context.
Ta’Atheer Social Impact Awards
Last but not least, Project Maji was shortlisted by the Social Impact Summit as one of the best NGOs/NPOs. Led by an expert panel of industry leaders and innovators in corporate social responsibility and the social impact space, the Ta'atheer Social Impact Awards will recognize the outstanding achievements of organizations that have contributed to the development of social impact.
