Together, we have been able to serve more than 4000 meals to at least 200 kids of Sitio Dumpsite from the month of May till today. Thank you, donors!
The Sitio Dumpsite community has been struggling more than ever since COVID-19 hit the Philippines. Because of the lockdown and businesses being closed, many parents lost their jobs. Some families have been eating only twice a day. Parents text message our coordinator to ask about available food packs. One father asked if our coordinator could refer him to a construction job. Others personally went to our station asking for rice or canned goods.
So, whenever we prepare meals for the kids, we try our best to incorporate as many nutrients as possible. One meal we served was pork-and-squash patties on rice, sweet and sour sauce, and a banana for dessert.
We also want to inform you that after social distancing protocols were implemented, we revised our feeding format. Before the pandemic, we gathered the kids at our feeding station. Now, we pack the meals in paper containers and deliver them to the kids so they can eat at home.
Below are some photos from the feedings.
We would love to tell you that Project Baon in Sitio Dumpsite has already started, however, this has not yet happened. During the first quarter of this year, we worked on opening the feeding program to feed 50 students from a daycare center. But we were overtaken by circumstances and we were not able to do so.
In mid-March, mass gatherings were discouraged due to the coronavirus. All of our existing feeding programs were stopped and the opening of new ones was also halted. With the current situation and uncertainties when this coronavirus will end, we are unsure yet of when this station will open.
We hope to report to you the opening of this feeding station in our next report. We pray that you and your family are doing well during this pandemic.
We are still working on opening a Project Baon feeding program at Sitio Dumpsite. We are hoping to start holding it in partnership with the daycare center in the area early in 2020.
An outreach feeding program is currently in operation in Sitio Dumpsite. It started in October and feeds 50 children once a week. We also began serving milk with our meals in October. This became possible when a chocolate company provided milk for all our beneficiaries.
We hope to bring you better news in our next report. For now, here are some pictures of the kids from the outreach.
Sitio Dumpsite #ProjectBaon Feeding Program will resume its operation soon. Hooray!
There will be 30 beneficiaries in this feeding program that will be fed with healthy meals 5 times a week. The chosen malnourished kids will be coming from the poor community of Sitio Dumpsite, Antipolo City. This program will be led by Ptr. Miguel Gallo and volunteers from his church and will run for three months.
We hope to bring you more good news about this new project and the kids’ progress in our next report. For now here are some pictures from outreaches that happened in the past while preparing for #ProjectBaon.
Although we were not able to receive any donations for Sitio Dumpsite Summer Meals, the sun still shines brighter to the kids of Sitio Dumpsite. There were several donors who came to visit this location to personally hand food to the kids there. They prepared games, stories and bags of treats to the beautiful kids of Antipolo. More than a hundred kids received great food during the months of April and May and their faces won't deny the gratefulness in their hearts as they enjoy the food being served to them.
Thank you so much for all your support. We are still hoping to get more people take part in this project in the coming months. Any donation from the heart is more than welcome!
