This month, we are proud to spotlight an innovative project by Red COMAL aimed at empowering small farming families in Intibucá, Honduras. At the heart of this initiative is the vision to strengthen climate resilience and create sustainable livelihoods for 50 small-scale agroecological farms, particularly focusing on Indigenous youth and women.

So, how does it work? Red COMAL works with 50 families to turn agricultural waste into organic compost. This technique can achieve the same, if not better, crop yields while saving money and protecting the land from harmful chemicals. The result? More income for families working hard to make ends meet and more sustainable solutions for the planet.

As project leader Donaldo explains, “With this donation, we will be supporting families by providing vegetable seeds, materials, and equipment to make natural fertilizers, and installing drip irrigation systems to make efficient use of water, among other things.”

On behalf of the farming families, Donaldo adds, “We would like to express our deep gratitude to the Club members for this donation. It will greatly assist us in continuing to support families in implementing agroecological practices and adapting to climate change.”

Red COMAL has been a trusted partner in this work for years, and together we’ve been working to move beyond short-term food aid solutions to build long-lasting, sustainable systems centered around food sovereignty. This approach empowers local communities to control their own food production, improve their livelihoods, and adapt to the challenges of climate change and global uncertainty.

To dive deeper into Red COMAL’s approach, check out our featured article, How This Nonprofit Is Taking Food Sovereignty From Theory To Practice In Honduras, where Donaldo shares his thoughts on why centering food sovereignty—not just food aid—is essential for creating truly sovereign solutions that can stand the test of time.

Thank you for being a part of this work. Your support is helping build a more sustainable and resilient future for all—one community and inspired project at a time.

Until next time,
