Dear Project of the Month Member,
Hundreds of sea turtles never make it to the ocean because they are stolen before being hatched. In Central America, sea turtle eggs are heralded as a delicacy and are often illegally stolen and traded. On many Central American beaches, poachers destroy more than 90% of sea turtle nests to sell eggs to restaurants and bars in the cities.
To safeguard the endangered sea turtle, PASO Pacifico created the InvestEGGator: A realistic, artificial sea turtle egg containing a GPS location tracker. The fake eggs are planted in nests and offer the team live intel on the eggs’ movement so they can document transit routes and provide evidence to law enforcement.
When Executive Director Sarah Otterstrom learned that Paso Pacifico is May's Project of the Month, she shared that these funds will not only save hundreds of baby sea turtles but will also create job opportunities for people living in coastal communities.
“Your donation will make it possible for community rangers to patrol beaches and protect nests in Central America,” Sarah said. “These rangers will also collect important data for conservation science. In addition, your contributions make it possible for us to share the InvestEGGator technology with other conservation groups.”
Your ongoing donation to the Project of the Month Club showcases your commitment to a better world for endangered species and communities around the world. Thank you—we can’t say it enough!
With gratitude,
