Dear Project of the Month Club Member,
The climate crisis and industrial plantations threaten the water resources of indigenous communities in Paraguay.
Women are central in collecting and distributing water and safeguarding their communities’ natural resources. That is why Fondo de Mujeres del Sur provides financial support to women's groups that defend and promote their environmental rights and those of their communities through GlobalGiving’s Project of the Month for March, Grant Access to Safe Water in Paraguay.
Your support is helping communities solve critical problems to access safe drinking water. The fund will help Fondo de Mujeres del Sur provide financial aid to more women-led organizations like Mapik. Mapik is a collective of the Mocoví women of Tostado, a town 200 miles northeast of Santa Fe. In the summer, temperatures can pass 110 F, and the town only receives drinking water once a week. That’s why Mapik built a community rainwater catchment with a capacity of 16,000 liters to ensure their town does not run out of drinking water halfway through the week.
"We are very grateful to be beneficiaries," Local Resource Assistant Carla Guillot shared when Fondo de Mujeres del Sur learned that Grant Access to Safe Water in Paraguay had been selected as the March Project of the Month. "We believe that it is very important to financially support women's organizations that defend their access and management to safe water, and land and food sovereignty, from a sustainable development and a gender perspective."
