Project New Ngoma is raising funds to build three staff accommodation blocks at New Ngoma School, located in the remote village of New Ngoma adjacent to Kafue National Park, Zambia. The school plays a vital role in educating the local community on conservation and the protection of elephants and other wildlife. To meet demand and deliver quality education, four additional teachers are needed-but housing is the barrier.
Many of New Ngoma Primary School's 160 students walk in from surrounding villages. Education is prized here but with only three teachers and the children's ages ranging from 5 to 15, each class is rationed to half a day's education. The school is a conservation partner of Game Rangers International and is adjacent to the Kafue National Park but its remoteness means that two teachers must live with families in the small village of New Ngoma. More teachers would make an enormous difference.
To meet demand and deliver quality education, four additional teachers are needed-but housing is the barrier. We aim to build three safe, permanent housing units to help attract and retain qualified teaching staff.
To meet demand and deliver quality education for the school's 160 students, four additional teachers are needed-but housing is the barrier. The government is willing to provide more teachers, but until proper housing exists, they simply cannot be placed here. The new staff accommodation will play a vital role in educating the local community on conservation and the protection of elephants and other wildlife-connecting quality education with long-term environmental stewardship.
