Abraco Campeao is a non-governmental organization based in a vast favela community in Rio de Janeiro. It's one of the areas most affected by armed conflicts, lack of basic services, and also the absence of opportunities. Our founder, Alan Duarte, lost ten family members to violence and decided to create the project to offer a better future for his son and his community. The organization operates on four main pillars: sports activities including martial arts; education; social support; youth lead
The challenge is immense because the community faces socio-economic problems, and we understand that vulnerability exposes children and young people. To fulfill our mission, we are constantly seeking partnerships and actions that attract children and young adults, showing them that the world is full of possibilities and that it is indeed possible to achieve goals with dedication and commitment.
We recognize the potential of sports and believe that when combined with personal development and education, we can have a transformative and sustainable impact on the lives of young people, their future horizons, areas of knowledge, and the development of their socio-emotional capacities and skills. There is ample evidence that holistic methodologies combining sports, education, and psychosocial support can have a significant positive impact on young people's lives.
The Formando Campeoes Project will directly impact the lives of 300 people each year. A group of children and young people aged 5 to 29 engaging in martial arts activities integrated with citizenship/personal development, social support, and employability/entrepreneurship to become protagonists of their own story and authors of their own future.
