Vocational training has become a necessity in Uganda due to the high numbers of job seekers graduating from higher institutions of education like universities and the many cases of unemployment in the country. Vocational training provides specific technical jobs and putting this into consideration, Another Hope Children’s Ministries embarked on a project of skilling for young girls and women and this has been successfully implemented with the support from you our friends. A total of fourteen girls and young women (3 girls and 11 young women) are beneficiaries of this project offering different courses of their interest which help them sustain their lives after they have acquired the skills. The young women are between 18 and 25 years of age. The different courses they are taking are Tailoring and fashion design, Early Child Development and cosmetology and hair dressing.
Beneficiary A
Beneficiary A is a twenty-two years old girl living with her mother a widow in Lulumbu village in Mpigi district. The beneficiary lost her father when she was two months old and she grew up with her mother who has taken full responsibility over her and her siblings. From the little income she was raising from farming, she paid school fees for the beneficiary up to primary six in 2016 when she couldn’t afford to take her for further education. She sat home for a year and in 2017 she got a job to work as a house maid young as she was in the areas of Entebbe. She worked there for two years and at the start of this year, the speaker called her and informed her about the opportunity to study again which excited her and brought back hope for a better future. The beneficiary is now in the vocational institute offering a course in tailoring and fashion design. She says she is so happy because these skills are going to help her earn some income to have better standards of living and helping her family and she is so thankful for the support rendered. Because of you, this girl was rescued from child labour and she is now earning a skill that will better her life. Thanks so much
