Dear Supporter
When Mercy came to us, she had been walking on a broken leg for at least 8 weeks prior to her admission. She was also diagnosed with a Pyometra, a painful, life-threating infection of the womb that we often see in unsterilized females. We could see that she had already had her share of puppies too and that life thus far had not been kind to her.
She underwent emergency surgery to amputate her leg which was beyond saving and to remover her infected womb. It was a race against time to ensure that Mercy only lost her leg as a result of her hard life and not her life as well.
Admitted to our high care ward, Mercy had a lot of healing ahead of her. Anti-biotics had to be administered intraveneously to ensure she could beat the infection raging through her body. Nobody had cared about her until now, and we are so glad that your support meant we could!
She beat the odds! Mercy wanted to live, she believed us when we said a better life was waiting for her, one where she wouldn't bear litter after litter of puppies, one where food would not have to be searched for and one where she would never not have a wound tended to, if she needed it.
We were so pleased when Graham and Wendy, two very special people who already had one three-legged dog at home, found space in their hearts for Mercy too.
Mercy more than a life worth living now, she has everything she has ever dreamed off and we can't thank you enough. There is no doubt that Mercy would've died in the streets, sick, injured and alone were it not for wonderful people like you.
The Team at the SPCA thanks you too, for enabling us to do our life-saving work knowing we have friends to count on, friends who understand that a lot of animals have nobody else to care for them but the SPCA.
Being able to heal Mercy was encouraging and uplifting to our spirits too. It was incredible to see her leaving our facilities, ready to spend Christmas with her new family.
May you be blessed in 2022 and may the year bring you all you wish for yourselves.
Yours for the love of animals,
Belinda
