Project Summary

According to the United Nations, the number of people requiring humanitarian assistance in Syria has reached 13 million as a result of the conflict that began in 2011. With more than 6 million Syrians displaced and approximately 3 million people struggling to survive in besieged areas, the situation remains critical. Continuous internal displacement, combined with the severe degradation of the country’s economy and infrastructure, has left a vast majority of the population without access to essential health services.

Since 2018, Doctors Worldwide has been implementing sustainable initiatives in response to the Syrian crisis. Within this framework, health centers established in priority regions provide comprehensive services, including examinations, treatments, surgical interventions, and the distribution of medical supplies and essential medications. To date, over 1.5 million beneficiaries have been reached through the Soran, Cinderes, and Suluk health centers operating in the region.

Achievements and Impact

Suluk Health Center At the Suluk Health Center, service delivery continued steadily between April and July 2026. Internal medicine examinations reached 764 sessions in April, 899 in May, 1,048 in June, and 952 in July. Gynecology examinations were recorded as 187 sessions in April, 111 in May, 255 in June, and 254 in July. Pediatric examinations reached 752 sessions in April, 509 in May, 917 in June, and 613 in July. Dermatology examinations reached 270 sessions in April, 120 in May, 381 in June, and 251 in July, while ENT examinations provided 14 sessions in May, 193 in June, and 228 in July. Emergency observation services reached 386 individuals in April, 247 in May, 507 in June, and 406 in July. Medication and medical supply support services remained a critical lifeline, reaching 2,359 individuals in April, 1,900 in May, 3,301 in June, and 2,704 in July. In total, the center delivered 8,718 examination sessions and reached 11,810 individuals during the period.

Soran Maternity & Primary Health Care Center Center, comprehensive maternal and pediatric care continued to be the priority between April and July 2026. Gynecology examinations reached 1,523 sessions in April, 1,494 in May, 1,716 in June, and 1,260 in July. Pediatric examinations totaled 1,330 in April, 1,291 in May, 1,474 in June, and 1,135 in July. Mobile health services were introduced in July, delivering 1,321 sessions. Family planning services provided 46 sessions in April, 34 in May, 38 in June, and 32 in July. In terms of individual-based services, dental health services reached 233 people in April, 228 in May, 240 in June, and 230 in July, while laboratory services benefited 628 people in April, 526 in May, 832 in June, and 634 in July. Emergency observation services were provided to 186 individuals in April, 193 in May, 274 in June, and 196 in July. Normal deliveries were recorded as 3 in April, 1 in May, 2 in June, and 3 in July. Medication support reached 3,482 individuals in April, 3,380 in May, 3,937 in June, and 2,982 in July. Vaccination efforts remained consistent, with 115 mothers and 14 children reached in April, 106 mothers and 9 children in May, 135 mothers and 17 children in June, and 90 mothers and 13 children in July. In total, the center delivered 12,694 examination sessions and reached 18,689 individuals during the period.

Conclusion

Between April and July 2026, Yeryüzü Doktorlar Dernegi responded consistently and comprehensively to the essential health needs of conflict-affected populations through the Suluk and Soran Health Centers. Maternity & Primary Health Care services, outpatient examinations, emergency and dental care, as well as medication and medical supply assistance constituted the core of service delivery. In particular, the Soran Maternity & Primary Health Care Center managed a high patient volume, bearing a significant share of the regional health burden with a steady increase in laboratory and vaccination services throughout the period. The consistent delivery of these services, alongside the extensive medication support provided at both centers, demonstrates the organisation's strong operational capacity in the field and its critical role in ensuring continuity of access to essential healthcare services in Northern Syria.
