This program will benefit more than 6,000 children between 6-12 years old in rural areas of Guatemala, providing preventive dental care to children without access to dental services. These children in poverty and extreme poverty have mostly never visited a dentist and have high rates of oral diseases. Not carried out this program probably they will never have the opportunity to attend their oral problems.
Guatemala has communities in rural areas who do not have dental services. The children of these villages are in poverty and extreme poverty, the vast majority have never visited a dentist and never will. Decay rates are above 90% at the end of elementary school and the state has no the capacity to solve this situation.
This program seeks to bring dental schools in the most affected communities treatments. Early treating oral diseases and educating children, parents and teachers with good oral hygiene habits will achieve lower rates of oral diseases.
The implementation of this program and its follow year after year, has a proven reduction and elimination of oral diseases in children to finish elementary school. Each year 6,000 children from 12 schools can benefit from this program.
