Project: Preventive Initiative Focusing Children from Risks (Our Study Place – OrStdPlc)

Organization: Console Mission, Nepal

Introduction

This year has been a journey of balancing donor requirements with community realities. While the initial project design aimed to reach large numbers across multiple wards, the true strength of our work lies in creating a sustainable model. To meet donor criteria, we expanded coverage, but our focus remained on one ward—Chaughare, which includes 21 villages.

Here, Our Study Place (OrStdPlc) has become a safe and inspiring space where children learn together, develop self-motivation, practice discipline, improve personal hygiene, and gain confidence through debates and presentations.

Impact Highlights

  • Children’s Participation:

    • 19 children regularly attend OrStdPlc, meeting three times a week after school (6–7:30 PM).
    • Travel time varies—some walk two hours, others one hour—to reach the center.
  • Community Leadership:

    • On 27th December 2025, a 7-member committee led by women was formed to manage OrStdPlc.
    • The committee ensures activities run smoothly and provides guidance for children.
  • Activities:

    • Indoor games, singing, dancing, and preparation for debates.
    • On 11th December 2025, children organized a debate on “The Importance of Discipline in Student’s Life” with support from committee members.
    • Teacher’s Training was facilitated through the Children Development Center, strengthening educational support.
  • Transformation:

    • Before OrStdPlc, children studied alone, often exhausted and isolated.
    • Now, they learn together, building teamwork, joy, and resilience.

Challenges

  • Parental Engagement:
Mothers must prioritize sending children to OrStdPlc and encourage committee efforts.

  • Political & Ward Leadership:
Local leaders need to recognize their role in creating a welcoming environment for such initiatives.

  • Community Awareness:
Parents and villagers across Chaughare and surrounding areas must see the bigger picture—how OrStdPlc helps children focus, grow, and prepare for the future.

Looking Forward

  1. Financial Sustainability:
Secure monthly financial support to benefit committee members who dedicate time to running OrStdPlc.

  2. Expansion:
Extend the initiative to other villages with the help of the existing committee, covering travel and communication costs.

  3. Capacity Building:
Strengthen committee skills to represent ideas at the Municipality level and share the initiative widely through social media.

Conclusion

Our Study Place has proven that small, community-led initiatives can transform children’s lives. With continued support, we aim to expand this model, empower local leadership, and ensure every child in Chaughare—and beyond—has access to a nurturing environment for learning, discipline, and creativity.
