Beneficiary learning in a peaceful enviornment
Beneficiary learning in a peaceful enviornment

My spouse, one of the founder members and the initial staff until she gave birth to our second child in 2014, has completed her 3-year nursing course achieving distinction, passed her license from the Government and waiting for the license. She did join college after our second child started going to school. "If Console Mission was not focusing on education, she would not have interest in joining." As a young daughter, she was less privileged compared to her elder sister who is now in a good profession and earning that they are earning helping their family. REALLY, IT IS STILL AN AMAZED NEWS WHEN FEMALE IS IN A GOOD PROFESSION OR COMPLETES TERTIARY EDUCATION. Our former Chairperson and now in adviser's team had a child coincidental it was the last day of her school's exam. Similarly, those who are connected and who know Console Mission, known as Dilasha Aviyan in the Nepali language, become a hint or tips, a message that education is important.

"A world is not sufficient if a person left behind - pandemic caused by Covid-19 helps to understand it in a better way".

Since education was seen as nothing than time-consuming, Console Mission planned to give an example. To do that, 3 girls from the areas where education was not accepted guided to select the appropriate course and provided a place for living. Engineering (at Central Engineering Campus), food and dairy technology (CAFODAT) and dental hygiene (Samaj Dental College) were the 3 programmes that those 3 students went, completed in mid 2023 and started earning, independent and taking care of their younger brothers and sisters. From 2019 until they stayed at Self Managed Home, Console Mission were the local guardian, consultant and supporter. Lack of guardian they would have left continuing the 3-years programme. During those years, they also volunteered for Console Mission. Based on their areas of studies they organised programmes like health camp, informative sessions and survey to find out about the situation of drinking water supply. During and after that is now, the whole ward that comprises about 14 both small, medium and large size villages were impacted on the importance of education for better future and quality of life. And my spouse also did well that as being a part of Console Mission, her achievement is a subject that people even in the urban or city area has started prioritising education. Because, mainly for girls, marriage proposal is more important than continuing whatever they would be doing. Though there are some differences, culturally daughters are better seen to get married on time.

The time that Console Mission consider is based on both physical and mental capabilities to be able to give birth and take care of a child. However if that was happening this project "Preventive Initiative Focusing Children from Risks" under CSELAP was not come forward to you. There are other two projects posted too, they are interrelated. Based on the plan a Coaching Class or if I will explain it more clearly:

  1. A place for children who need to focus on their studies, back home (after and before school), are not getting place, an environment because of various reasons (check the link).
  2. A self-learning or peer-group learning or learning by getting help from seniors who are not tutors or teachers but students
  3. A place where children get to do their homework together with their friends and also get an opportunity to develop their handwriting, speaking and practicing math
  4. Additionally, they also get opportunity to see their hygiene situation, environment outside and learn about conservation of the source that their life depends on
  5. Moreover, linking their education with future career at most

"There are two started and one is on the way." With the support from the founders, 1 volunteer and expenses to run renting a room is happening. However, 1 volunteer started at her own house, for her Console Mission managed educational scholarship. And at third place and for all soon Console Mission will need budget to mange Our Study Place (to prevent children, mainly girls from risk of marriage and other form of human trafficking called child labour).

The name of the villages/name of ward/ward number/name of muncipality/ district/ number of children/ number of volunteer country where OSP is started are:

  1. Ghurdum village/Chaughare/1/Konjyosom/Lalitpur/Nepal/18/3
  2. Gongwa village/Chaughare/1/Konjyosom/Lalitpur/Nepal/18/3
  3. Nayagaon village/Bhattedanda/3/Bagmati/Lalitpur/Nepal/19/2

Financials reflections (Account Head, monthly cost) for one Our Study Place:

1 US$ = 130 NPR

  1. Setting up our study place, $92 (for carpet for floor, 5 metres, white board, indoor and outdoor games materials, educational teaching materials, notebooks for the beneficiaries)
  2. Monthly rent, $15
  3. Volunteer travel and communication, $43
  4. Training and development of volunteer, $30

Total direct project cost:

  1. 1 time: $207
  2. monthly $88
  3. for a year for 1 OSP is $1263
  4. for 6 OSPs is $7578 ($8548 is what is planned including some administrative costs)

What happens after 12 months:

  1. during the 12 months starting from the first month, monthly interaction with parents is planned
  2. interactions with the local government focusing on ownership and they budget after 12 months
  3. visiting to the school to find out the progress and differences seen in the children coming at OSP

OSPs functions:

  1. 3 alternative days a week
  2. monthly parents meeting focusing on raising awareness and ownership by contributing funds to manage rent
  3. annual planning includes picnic, competitions both outdoor and indoors.
  4. environmental and hygiene programmes
  5. personal hygiene programmes

OSPs management and looking forward:

  1. develop ties with the local government
  2. outsiders - educational institutes situated in the city of Lalitpur (the district where these 6 villages are situated)
  3. relationship with NGOs focusing education and human trafficking
  4. strengthening and developing local volunteers
  5. helping children to find colleges, subjects and scholarships after they need to come out of their village to study in the city of Lalitpur district.

Conclusion:

  1. The fund that you have contributed is a hope. But there are challenges ahead that Console Mission is expecting to get support from GlobalGiving by connecting with the corporate partners. Since this is the need, Console Mission needs your encouragement and sharing your participation, a great support, to your friends, in circle and to those grant providing organisations.
  2. Since OSP is cost-effective, if local volunteer is motivated and not distracted by the environment, similarly as 3 is on the run, other will also.
  3. Moreover, Console Mission is hoping to reach all 460 village municipalities of the country.

OSP was tested that impacted change. Console Mission observed stopping OSP at a village where it was running and at that time, not far but in 2023, 3 girls studying in grade 8 got married. Guiding children during school and when they study in city along with participation of local government is the need that Console Mission has started by interacting in June 2023 with 18 local government. Console Mission is planning for 18 villages. as first project, it will be a test project working closely with the local government and handover. Then moving ahead is the plan.
