PROED has been implementing this program in Public Elementary Schools since the year 2011. Our main goal is to reduce the risk of substance abuse in students through the strengthening of personal, family and school protection factors that require certain actions that contain didactic methodologies centered in self-esteem and assertiveness in good decision making. The implementation of this actions will be organized in three categories: 1. Information; 2. Selfcare; 3.Communication.
Students in Public Elementary and Middle Schools are vulnerable, which makes them have risky behaviors that will lead them to consume illicit substances. The public schools that we accompany are located in aeas where drug trafficking and violence predominate. These circumstances allow students to be exposed from an early stage to illegal substances such as tabaco, drugs and alcohol. This is why prevention is essential for upper grade elementary students.
To evaluate results, we work with indicators that show us, the adquisition of socioemotional abilities, self esteem development, and the good use of certain tools to avoid risky situations. Through our courses and workshops we enhance communication and the importance of healthy family relations. Our evaluations show excellent results on this Prevention Programs which ae imparted by our allies, who are specialists on drug prevention and recognized nation wide on this subject.
The long term of this project is to accompany the school community (students, parents and teachers) throughout each students school years, allowing each student to remain studying until highschool without consuming illicit substances, so that they may become healthy, proactive members of their community. They may contribute back to their communities with the knowledge they acquired through remaining in school, studying, and not dropping out because of their substance abuse consumption.
