FMH: Supporting Kidney Patients in Pakistan

By Huzaifa Kermani | Group Director MarComms NURFMS

Pakistan faces a significant healthcare challenge with a high prevalence of kidney disease, ranking eighth globally. Over 17 million individuals suffer from kidney ailments, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is rapidly increasing due to factors like late diagnosis, kidney stone disease, diabetes, and hypertension.

Fatima Memorial Hospital's Nephrology department is dedicated to providing round-the-clock care to kidney patients from all socioeconomic backgrounds. However, the rising number of patients strains available resources, necessitating innovative solutions.

Challenge

The global burden of kidney disease, particularly in Pakistan, outstrips current healthcare capabilities. The increasing demand for dialysis services exceeds the capacity of existing facilities, leading to long waiting lists and delayed treatment. Many patients, unable to access timely care, face dire consequences.

Solution

To address this pressing issue, Fatima Memorial Hospital wants to implement a Peritoneal Dialysis (home dialysis) program. This innovative approach empowers patients to manage their dialysis treatment at home, reducing reliance on hospital-based hemodialysis and alleviating the strain on healthcare resources.

Long-Term Impact

By expanding access to home dialysis, Fatima Memorial Hospital aims to:

  • Improve patient quality of life: Home dialysis offers greater flexibility and independence for patients.
  • Reduce the burden on healthcare facilities: By shifting some dialysis treatments to the home setting, hospitals can focus on critical care cases.
  • Increase patient survival rates: Timely dialysis treatment is crucial for managing kidney disease and preventing complications.

Your Support

Your generous donation will directly contribute to:

  • Purchasing dialysis equipment and supplies: Ensuring patients have access to essential medical equipment.
  • Training healthcare professionals: Empowering healthcare providers to deliver high-quality home dialysis care.
  • Providing patient education and support: Helping patients understand their condition and manage their treatment effectively.

By supporting this initiative, you will play a vital role in saving lives and improving the health of countless kidney patients in Pakistan.
