Ms. A Magar, 18 years old adolescent girl from Makwanpur district was rescued from being trafficked. Her mother passed away when she was in Grade 11. Her father is a driver and who did not came regularly at home due to his profession. Ms. A was neglected at her home after her father remarried with other women. She had to bear most of the domestic work with no support from others and became sick due to the hard work. Then she felt marriage would be the best solution and leave home and got married with 18 years old boy. After Marriage, she went to her new home. However, she was not well treated in his new home. After few days of marriage, she returned to her own house. She is even separated and misbehaves by her stepmother at home. With the entire situation, she made some connections with new people through social media and she started to work as a waitress in a restaurant in Kathmandu. After few days, Nepal Police made a raid in the restaurant and she was taken to the shelter home for few days and she returned to her own house and reunited with her family again.
At home, she was again tortured and misbehaved. Due to the domestic violence, she suffered from mental illness, stigma and felt isolated. With all this stigma, she was admitted in Hetauda Hospital. Her stepmother was not ready to take up her responsibility. Then Nepal Police requested HIMRIGHTS (Us) and Maiti Nepal to take care of her. Since we do not have shelter homes, Maiti Nepal provided shelter to her and we supported with psychosocial counseling, clothes, and towel, Soap, Tooth-Brush and Paste.
Her case illustrated significant family destruction, negligence and ineffective social support systems. Her experience indicates vulnerability, particularly as a young female without proper care and family guidance. She further needs psychosocial counseling, continuation of her education and economic dependence. We, HIMRIGHT will continue to work with her for further support.
