For this reporting period we focused on small lodges and restaurants where vulnerable and marginalized women and children work for survival. We focused on what is internal and external human trafficking in Ward no. 10, Hetauda, Makwanpur, Nepal. Many a times vulnerability for external human trafficking is created when women are trafficked internally to work in exploitative situations in places like these, where they are abused physically, for labor and or sexually too. Many of them seek opportunities to get out of this situation or for “better options”. Women in such situation are easily lured to get a “better jobs” abroad eventually leading to trafficking.
We, from Human Rights and Anti Trafficking Network--HIMRIGHTS Makwanpur, Maiti Nepal Makwanpur, few other members, jointly with the local government representatives visited every lodges and restaurants within the vicinity of the main bus station. We observed the situation of women and child workers in these places. We shared the illegality of child labor and legal provisions for working conditions; distributed all the educational materials produced by the network members on internal and external human trafficking including legal provisions on the issue. This was a means to work as watchdogs to prevent child labor and exploitative labor conditions. We conducted this program on June 23, 2024. We visited 15 institutions.
