Orbis is on a mission to prevent and control COVID-19 in Ethiopia and we need your help. Teaching the importance of hand washing is at the heart of what we do at Orbis, to prevent eye diseases such as Trachoma. Such personal hygiene practices are also key in preventing the spread of COVID-19. This project will provide key COVID-19 messaging and hygiene supplies across a region of 3.4 million people.
In Ethiopia, a massive 91% of the population has limited access to regularly wash their hands. Soap is not readily available, or all too often, it is simply unaffordable. Like all of us, the people of Ethiopia are highly exposed to COVID-19 transmission, however they lack the resources to prevent the disease.
Through our sight saving work Orbis implements training in schools to ensure children are educated about maintaining correct hygiene procedures such as face and hand washing. Orbis also distributes these messages in rural communities. These simple messages are very powerful in preventing the spread of infection. This means our work can be implemented to help control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Ethiopia at this time.
Orbis will distribute key COVID-19 messaging and deliver critical supplies to rural communities and partners hospitals. This project will inform and educate healthcare workers and rural communities about COVID-19 guidelines and about correct hygiene procedures. This project will result in preventing and controlling the spread of COVID-19 in Ethiopia and will have an everlasting impact on these communities, educating them to take actions to prevent spread of infections such as Trachoma.
