"Literacy empowers and liberates people. Beyond its importance as part of the right to education, literacy improves lives by expanding capabilities which in turn reduces poverty, increases participation in the labour market and has positive effects on health and sustainable development. Women empowered by literacy have a positive ripple effect on all aspects of development. They have greater life choices for themselves and an immediate impact on the health and education of their families, and in particular, the education of children."
—UNESCO
This past May, we celebrated as 15 more women in the villages we serve learned and developed their reading and writing skills. After completing the 12-week class, everyone received a certificate of completion, Children books, and other materials to continue learning from home.
Everyone expressed deep gratitude for having a dedicated teacher and a place to learn. It's been so fun to see their confidence in reading and writing build over time, and we are excited to see how this will soon benefit their children and family.
Thank you for your continued support and helping make education possible for hill tribe women in Thailand.
