Dear Friends,
1 in 9 girls is forced into marriage before her 15th Birthday!
And We are determined to change this. This is a story of Rashmi & Gauri, the two sisters at FFLV schools who were being forced to marry as young as 16 & 12!!
Their father fixed their marriage date for the 27th of July 2017, adamant that this was best for their future. We had little hope fighting against a man whose rigid orthodox beliefs were not scared of the law or any legal action against him. However, we were rigid too!
Our Child Protection Team worked day in and out with the police and every government department that could help.
After a few police visits and a letter of warning from the government, their father finally gave in and allowed his daughters to come back to school. They are happy to be back and are now looking forward to a very different life ahead.
We thank you all because of your support hundreds of girls are safe in our schools.
The story of Rashmi was covered as a part of a series of Short Films by Without Exception films, under the #SheMustCount Campaign by Marie Avgeropoulos. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it in the Link "Watch Rashmi's Story"
